Online gender bending

I did some research about online gender bending. I think it’s interesting to look at the reasons why people do it. In this post I will look at that reasons for man and woman to do it.

Male: A reason for man to choose a female character in an online game is because women get more help. So they get free weapons from other (male) character way easier then a male character does.
An other reason I see is that people want to be completely different when they do online roleplaying. So they create a character that has another gender en they can life into that image.

Female: It’s works the other way around as well in online gaming. Some females don’t like the extra help they get and they think that the guys don’t take them seriously so they create a male character to have the same game experience as a normal guy has.

“Yup. The stereotypes apply. Boy characters didn't stop to help me the way they stop to help my female characters, and they didn't just walk up and start a conversation.”

I think these two quotes show clearly what I meant before.

I think the result of “gender exploration” is interesting because you don’t really become someone from the opposite gender, so the only thing you really explore is how people of the opposite are threaten by people from your gender (online). And that’s actually something you kind off know already because you are from that gender and most of the time you see people from you gender in the game too.
