Social media for me?

I think that there are a lot of purposes to use social media for, but in the blog post I will look at the purposes for me in a close future.

Apply for a job/internship
When I watch my Twitterstream I see it happen more and more, and I think it’s good to follow it. I do a study in the “new media” so why not use them to apply for an internship?
I don’t have a profile on LinkedIn yet, but I think by the time I will end my study I will make one. It’s an easy portfolio for people that look for you on the internet. I rather show them that, then my Facebook profile. It’s not the problem that there is something wrong with my Facebook profile, but is doesn’t give a visitor any idea of what I did in school, LinkedIn has options to show it.

Follow other students/colleagues
For example, the people that are doing there internship now in my university created a special hashtag for that on Twitter. When I open tweetdeck I always see that hashtag so I see what they are working on, and what kind of problems they have. And when they ask a question on Twitter, I can help them sometimes because I already did my internship.
And it’s also nice to follow colleagues that do the same work. Because there’s always changing something and through these fast social media it’s easier to keep up with it.
